Missing Chuck's Commentaries?
Chuck Ogg scoured the alternative press to produce a weekly commentary for KRFC's local news program which apparently stopped playing them.

Contact bame(at)riverrock(dot)org for more information, sources, originals, etc.
  • Feb 20th postal letter from board saying new mission is adopted, however according to the bylaws, it was only proposed at that time, which isn't mentioned.
  • At least one constructive protest letter emailed to the board during this time -- it's the first in a batch of letters copied here.
  • The petition to block automatic adoption of the new mission
  • March 3 reply from board to a personal request for information to be shared widely about the right to petition petition and the petition deadline, which was missing from the Feb 20 letter. See entry for March 3.
  • Excerpt from a March 10th letter on behalf of board about another subject but also giving their position on further dialog about changing the mission statement:
    > Dear Paul,
    >
    > I know you and others have a lot of hope that the round table
    > discussions will get us past this impasse. However, at our board meeting
    > last night, after much discussion, we have concluded that there is no
    > common ground for us anymore. Call it irreconcilable differences. We are
    > stepping away from the dialog and moving on.
    >
    > Best Regards,
    > Beth Flowers for the KRFC Board of Directors
  • March 17th "firing" letter whereby three long-time volunteers had their membership revoked by the board -- a loophole which denied them recourse to the station's grievance policy which includes a fair hearing. In other documents these volunteers are called "radical leftists" as a perjorative term.
  • Email from board to petition deliverer (Don), see entry for March 16th on the main web page at this site.
  • Copy of minutes of the board meeting where the petition was rejected. Original is on the station web site.
  • Copy of "open letter" from board explaining about the petition rejection. Original is on the station web site.
  • Mediation offer from a respected member of the grassroots community radio community -- rejected by the board.
  • Several letters to the board (note dates sent)
  • Form letter reply from board to concerned letter writers "explaining misconceptions". See especially the repeated "logic" for rejecting the petition.

  • The Save Grassroots Radio web site has history, recent events, and other information intended for more casual use.
  • FCC rules and regs, not particularly helpful probably. Subsections B, C, and H apply to us. 73.503 is key. License renewal is sometimes a way to apply pressure to stations.

  • Restrictions including compliance with portions of the Communications Act of 1934 are part of having a Corporation for Public Broadcasting Radio Community Service Grant
  • Articles of Incorporation, from Secretary of State web site, filed 1995, with a small ammendment in 1995. Article V says in part: "Other conditions and regulations of Membership, and the rights and privileges of Members, shall be determined and fixed by the bylaws." Article 4.2 describes some liabilities of Directors.
  • Copy of Bylaws finalized in 2003. The founding mission statement is formally part of the bylaws as an appendix. This is also available from station's web site in the "about" section.
  • Excerpt: bylaws article XI regarding the petition
  • Colorado Revised Nonprofit Corporation Act (note these may not be the very latest revisions)
  • KRFC policies
